One cold Leafbare day, Blizzardpelt was shivering in the warrior's den.
"What's wrong, Blizzardpelt?" asked his best friend Rainshadow.
"It's so cold!" Blizardpelt screamed.
Rainshadow winced. "Okay...I was just going to say that Firestar wants you to go on patrol with Cloudtail and I."
"In this weather? Who does he think he is?"
"Well, he is our leader..."
"Fine. But you might as well tell Cloudtail that I'm in a bad mood."
"Okay," Rainshadow padded off.
Blizzardpelt shakily got to his feet and started following Rainshadow. When he got there, the two other warriors were all ready to go.
"Ready, Blizzardpelt?" asked Cloudtail.
"I guess. Let's get this over with."
The three warriors headed out into the freezing cold. Even with his fluffy pelt, Blizardpelt was shaking uncontrolably.
"You okay, Blizzardpelt?" asked Cloudtail.
"Y-y-yeah I'm f-f-fine..." Blizzard pelt managed. It's hard to talk when your tongue is frozen.
All of a sudden, they heard footsteps. Cloudtail sniffed the air. "ShadowClan...DUCK!"
The three warriors ducked as Rowanclaw, a ShadowClan warrior, jumped over them. He shook his head and got up. Soon him and four other ShadowClan warriors were surrounding them.
"Hello, ThunderClan mousebrains," Rowanclaw snarled.
"Hey! We're not mousebrains!" Rainshadow yelled.
"Rainshadow!" Blizzrdpelt whispered. "Don't do that!"
"Heh, heh, heh," Rowanclaw and the rest of the ShadowClan cats kept closing in. "And now, prepare to die!" Rowanclaw jumped at them, claws unsheathed.
Just before he made impact, Cloudtail batted him away with his paw. The ShadowClan warrior fell to the ground, unconsious.
"Nice," Blizzardpelt said.
Ratscar and his apprentice, Pinepaw, jumped at the three warriors. "Blizzardpelt, to your left!" Blizzardpelt turned and did a flip in the air, kicking Pinepaw in the stomach, sending the apprentice flying. He got up, clutching his stomach and scurried back toward the camp with Ratscar.
Smokefoot ran toward Blizzardpelt, only to meet a big gash in his neck. He fell to the ground, lifeless, blood oozing freeling from his wound.
The remaining warrior, Oakfur, scurried back toward the camp.
The three warriors ran back toward the camp, leaving the limp bodies of Rowenclaw and Smokefoot behind.
Blizzardpelt ran into Firestar's den. "Firestar! Firestar!" he panted.
"What is it, Blizzardpelt?" Firestar asked.
"ShadowClan...attacking us...five of them..."
"ShadowClan? We haven't seen them in a while. We'll discuss it at the Gathering. Which reminds me - the Gathering's tonight! Blizzardpelt, round up the warriors. It's time for the Gathering."
