killing Ashfur was villainous. No way around that one.
I just think that the unexpected thing would for her not to become like her Great-Uncle Scourge.

I liked Ashfur, it would have been cool if he had revealed the secret. I hate Hollyleaf, I wish she would kill herself.

Hollyleaf was also one of my favorite characters, but doing that was wrong. Why kill Ashfur when you were just going to tell your secret in the end the whole time? That doesn't make sense!

She killed Ashfur when she thought she was the daughter of a rogue. In her mind this stood in the way of her becoming leader since her twisted interpretation of the code said the clans reject kittypets and loners.
It was after she killed him that Hollyleaf learned she was not only half-clan, but the kit of a medicine cat. That pushed her over the edge and caused her to reveal the secret.
Had she been just the kit of a rogue or half-clan, she would have kept her mouth shut. But since a medicine cat broke the rules, she couldn't sit back and let Leafpool go unpunished and pretend like nothing happened.

If Ashfur revealed the secret...
If I were Squirrelflight, I would have told Brambleclaw the truth before the gathering.
but one thing to point out is how calm Squirrelflight seemed before that gathering. I think that when Ashfur made his pronouncement at Gathering, her reply would be something on the lines of "...you still can't get over that I chose Brambleclaw not you."
Everyone would see this as an attempt by Ashfur to break apart the famous couple, shake their heads, and it would be done. (aka no one would believe it for a second)

Still doesn't make sense. This was said in the book by Jayfeather too. He was thinking the same thing as Rainstar.

Okay, if Hollyleaf wanted to spill the beans, she could have just told Brambleclaw and Thunderclan, and that's that. Instead she has to tell all the clans and make a fool out of herself. That's not right. Even if she was a rogue, then Firestar would have been very pissed off because he would have been tired of letting in half-clan cats, kittypets, etc. Why would Squirrelflight help a rogue/stranger anyway? Weird.
Ashfur - If Ashfur told the secret, then there would have been trouble. In Sunrise, when Hollyleaf tells the secret, Squirrelflight doesn't deny it. She could have done the same thing to Ashfur. Thereby, I don't think she would have brought up her mate problem during the Gathering conflict.
