Reading the NP series (again ) and have come up w/ some interesting conclusions about Hawkfrost. Theory 1: Hawkfrost's original intent with placing the moth's wing outside Mudfur's den was because being a Medicine Cat would make his sister happy. But he later changed his reasoning after Tigerstar started training him and it was seen as a way to gain power. -Hawkfrost and Mothwing seem close up through "Dawn" and there appears to be no strained relationship between them until after the get to the lake. -I don't think Mothwing is told about what her littermate did until after they reach the lake. This is because the few times we see her on the Great Journey, she clings to the belief of Star Clan with everyone else. Theory 2: Without Tigerstar, Hawkfrost might have turned out all right. -When Riverclan finds out that Hawkfrost and Mothwing are Tigerstar's kits some are ready to turn on him but Stormfur, without hesitation, says that Hawkfrost is a strong and loyal warrior. Then questions his clan if anyone can doubt that. -Like Hawkfrost, Jayfeather wanted to take advantage of other clan's misfortunes to expand his clan territory. Jayfeather is now growing out of that (therefore it is possible for Hawkfrost to have done the same) (I'll just start with those.)

Still, Hawkfrost would have been greedy.

and really self-defensive. Part of his attitude comes from how Riverclan treats him because his mother was a rogue.
I'm curious if Stormfur and Hawkfrost were once friends (before the journey to sun-drown place). Might be an extra reason why Stormfur attacked him in Sunset. (Stormfur standing up for Hawkfrost as he trained and giving him encouragement but then to have him turn around and say Brook couldn't learn)

i agree hawkfrost couldve turned out fine if it weren't for his father and mother. i too am rereading the new prophecy and i hate the way squirrelflight and leafpool treat him. they say he is untrustworthy (thinking he will break the Warrior Code) but then leafpool turns around and falls in love with crowfeather and squirrelflight only thinks of sadness, no betrayal of the warrior code or even recognizes leafpool's consequences until the kits come

I've heard that life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% how you react to this... still clan cats aren't helping the situation. They have prejudices that drive a wedge between clans and between cats in their own clans.
For some of the cats that are being recruited by the Dark Forest, they are looking for acceptance. (they are later turned to power seeking furballs)
Hawkfrost- In the old forest, he had to struggle for acceptance because he was a rogue. From New Prophecy we learn he is jealous of Brambleclaw for at least meeting their father. When both of them meet Tigerstar in dreams, Hawkfrost is really excited and later stating "we'll do everything you tell us to do." In the end he's lost himself in trying to please his father.
Breezepelt- His clan thinks he's annoying and thinks Onestar is trying to get rid of him by sending him to the mountains with his father (Outcast). He is judged by his father's actions before his birth (Crowfeather's weakness in Thunderclan). After the secret is revealed, he finds acceptance with the Dark Forest cats who say he is justified in his feelings of being betrayed (he is mind you, but not justified to take revenge).
Ivypaw- Littermate is getting attention and she wants some also. Dark Forest cats promise to teach her things that will get her noticed.
Props to Tawnypelt, Brambleclaw, Ivypaw, and Tigerheart for realizing on their own that the Dark Forest isn't the place to be. (bonus points for Tawnypelt for flat out refusing)

i think that the clans can be too superstisious for my liking. if sasha and tigerstar hadn't broken up, maybe hawkfrost and mothwing won't be idiots, as yellowfang says, but his thunderclan wouldve been upset

I agree with you there. Despite what Yellowfang is, I don't think Mothwing is an idiot. In fact I think her smarter than StarClan at this point.

she obviously knows that the dark forest is too strong for medicine cat bonds to be broken i.e. Jayfeather, Willowshine, and Kestrelflight. Littlecloud is also smarter too

I don't think she knows about the dark forest and if she does, then she would have warned her clan.

Tadpole was very supportive and encouraging to other cats. Hawkfrost would have been able to see that Brambleclaw is very like his littermate and hence wanting to hang out whenever possible in NP

Actually there are theories that Tadpole went to Starclan. He did after all have clan blood, so it might be possible. I think he had the heart of a warrior and was always my favorite in his litter.
