For me these two "Clans" are very special.
I think Erin Hunter had named the Blood"Clan" very wrong probably for the voltage of the story. The name "Clan" should deprived of the WoodClans. The BloodClan is just a group of loners which has no warriorcode so a better name would be BloodGroup or something, or?^^
But the SkyClan is another thing and not just a false name. In the Founding Story of the Clans there is no SkyClan so either over the generations the SkyClan were not translate in the story or it gaves no SkyClan in the Founding Story of the WoodClans. If we start from the second variant raises the question: Who is the SkyClan really? A Secession from the other clans or a group from abroad who came later to the forest?

A large group of cats is called a clan (other terms: pride [lions only], clutter, clowder, or glaring). Bloodclan just sounds better.
As for Skyclan, there was actually a founding member. The field guide came out before "Firestar's Quest" where we learn there was a 5th clan. They probably didn't want to spoil the surprise.
